With Sustainability becoming ever more important, The Local Enterprise Office Fingal launched the “Green for Micro” programme back in 2021. The programme which aims to better equip small businesses for a low carbon, more resource efficient economy of the future was specially designed to assist small businesses who are seeking to save on energy costs, make their operations more sustainable and lower their carbon footprint. Due to the success of the initiative the LEO is continuing to take applications in 2022.

As part of the Programme, approved applicants receive individual consulting with a specialist Green Consultant which will include recommendations on specific changes a business can implement to become more environmentally friendly. Each business specific needs are matched to the Green Consultant’s area of expertise and the Consultant will then prepare a detailed Green for Micro Report on the client’s own business.

With the support of the Local Enterprise Office, Fingal the Little Wax Company successfully completed the Green for Micro Programme. The Green for Micro programme has allowed the Little Wax Company to become a more environmentally friendly business as the products are now produced from 70% recyclable materials which can be subsequently recycled after use.

Speaking about undertaking the Green for Micro Programme, Marc Herbert refers to how “Working with the Local Enterprise Office, they have been really supportive in helping us work through the Programme and allowing us to then be conscious of the decisions we need to make to be able to offer more sustainable products.”

“Every business has the desire to have less of an impact on the environment so undertaking a programme like this allowed us to look at our options and work with the best plan for our business”

Malahide based Seabury Medical Centre also completed the Green for Micro Programme and speak positively of their experience stating “We have found the Green for Micro Programme and support invaluable in making our small business more sustainable, with some suggestions already implemented and more to consider over the next year. Help with the Sustainability Policy and Environmental Action Plans was fantastic and much appreciated. Many thanks again”.

Businesses with up to 10 employees are eligible to apply for this free of charge programme.
