National Women’s Enterprise Day 2023 will be celebrated across the 31 Local Enterprise Offices on Thursday October 19th.  The Cavan event will be hosted by Local Enterprise Office Cavan and will be a celebration of women in business with a theme ‘Empowering Business Together”.

At the event the Cavan Women in Business Network will be launched, building on the previous network of 10 years – Cavan Business Women’s Club.

Heather Humphreys TD., Minister for Rural and Community Development and Minister for Social Protection will officially launch the event and the Cavan Women in Business Network.

Conor Craven, Acting Head, Local Enterprise Office Cavan will address the group.

A panel of five powerful business women will discuss the theme, Empowering Business Together, and give tips on developing and growing a business, based on their own experience. They include: Caroline Ashe Brady, KORE Group & Cavan Ambassador NWED 2023: Ciara Shine-Carlier, Shines Seafoods:  Therese Malanaphy, M-Tec Engineering; Nikki McGoohan, Propel2Gether: Caroline Thompson, Riverside Spa Limited:

Geraldine Johnston, Boyne Communications, will facilitate the Panel Discussion and Margaret McKeon-Boyle, Extensive PR Ltd, will act as Master of Ceremonies as well as coordinating the event.

Caroline Ashe Brady, Director, KORE Group (Insulation & Retrofit)

Chosen as the Ambassador for Cavan for National Women’s Enterprise Day 2023, Caroline has been the commercial director at KORE Insulation for the past 17 years.

As commercial director, Caroline is responsible for ensuring the company supplies customers with the products and services they need to meet their insulation requirements. Caroline is passionate about quality, a key aspect of the business, and continues to be motivated and excited by the opportunities that exist to construct super energy efficient buildings in Ireland. A graduate of DCU, Caroline has obtained an MSc in Strategic Procurement, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations from Fitzwilliam Institute and a Degree in Marketing & Management from DIT, Aungier Street. Caroline is also a Certified Passive House Consultant with the Passive House Institute. KORE Insulation are finalists in the SEAI Small and Medium Business Awards in the Exemplary Performance category.

Ciara Shine-Carlier, Shines Seafoods, Killybegs, Co. Donegal

Ciara has been a core part of the multi-award-winning Shines Seafoods Team for over 8 years. Her primary role is Marketing and brand development. 

Participating in ACORNS led Ciara to take a more pivotal role in running the company. Being surrounded by other business owners spurred her on to develop the company even further. Shines seafoods now have a range of 14 retails products, 2 food services products and have recently launched a gifting range.

Their products are now stocked in over 1000 stores in Ireland across SuperValu, Dunnes, Tesco and many independent retailers.  They export to the UK, Singapore, France and Germany  

Ciara is a mum of two busy little ladies alongside running Shines Seafoods, her family business with her parents John & Marianne Shine.

Nikki McGoohan, Propel2Gether

Nikki has previously worked with companies of various sizes from banking to start-ups.  For over 14 years she was a Partner with her sister in ProTemp where they provided a range of business services including financial & general administration, mentoring business owners and assisting them in their dealings with employees and financial institutions.  Subsequently, Nikki spent 6years as part of the senior management team of Abcon Industrial Products Ltd as Director of HR. 

 In July 2020 Nikki set up Propel 2Gether Ltd providing services such as business mentoring and executive and personal coaching.  She also works on a part-time basis with CMETB delivering courses in their Evening Provision and more recently modules of their ILM programme and Accounting Technicians Apprenticeship in Monaghan Institute.

 

Caroline Thompson, Riverside Spa Ltd

A multi award-winning female entrepreneur, Caroline opened her first salon in 2009 in Stradone and has gone on to own a total of 3 Luxury Spa Facilities, a Skin & Laser Clinic, a Training Division and Distribution Company. 

With an objective to create an oasis of calm, a getaway from the everyday stresses in life, Caroline developed the Riverside Spa group to be luxury state-of-the-art day spa facilities that offers relaxing spa packages, expert facial and body treatments, a full range of hair treatments and in recent years the addition of non-surgical advanced aesthetic clinic for all things laser hair removal, body sculpting and anti-aging treatments. Riverside Spa are located in Stradone, Cootehill in the Errigal Hotel and in Kells. Her Riverside Skin & Laser Clinic is based in Stillorgan, Co. Dublin, specialising in all things advanced aesthetics and non-surgical procedures. Caroline currently employs over 30 staff.

Awards won by Caroline include: SFA Small Business Award: Irelands Best Young Entrepreneur; County and regional winner: Cavan Business & Tourism Award

Therese Malanaphy, Director, M-Tec Engineering

The Operations & Financial Director of M-Tec Engineering, a family run-business established in Swanlinbar, County Cavan. Therese joined the company when it started, over 3 years ago. 

As a young woman in the engineering industry, she has first-hand experience on how challenging it can be. 

Interviewed by the Sunday Times about her completion of the Going for Growth Women Entrepreneurial Programme, Therese said that she is passionate about Women Taking Key Roles in businesses, and she believes women can take businesses to the next level.

Geraldine Johnston is an established and highly regarded Business Development Mentor, Events & Communications Consultant & Trainer.  With over decades of cross sector experience, Geraldine helps businesses and their teams to shape ideas, drive market impact, create and deliver strategic communications, plan and implement strategy plans, project management events and is a community champion and advocate. 

Geraldine will act as Facilitator of the Panel Discussion at the event.

 

Margaret McKeown Boyle, Founder & Managing Director, Extensive PR

Margaret has coordinated a network for Women in Business in Cavan on behalf of Local Enterprise Office Cavan since 2013 – 10 years.

Margaret established Extensive PR Ltd in 2004 and provides Digital Marketing, PR and communications services to a number of business sectors including Retail, Healthcare, Professional Services and Local Government.

Margaret will act as Master of Ceremonies for the event
