Food Starter Programme - Beginning 25th April 2018

Local Enterprise Office Cavan offers this new 2-day start-up programme, designed specifically for the food sector, to assist small food entrepreneurs and start-ups to establish and grow their business.

Food Starter is aimed at anyone who is thinking of starting their own food business, or recently started, for example in the last 18 months. The programme has been developed as a collaboration between Local Enterprise Offices and Bord Bia. Successful completion of Food Starter will be a prerequisite for future participants on our Food Academy programme. Food Starter is also designed for other food businesses who do not intend to progress to Food Academy.

2-Day Programme Outline:

• Food sector consumer and market trends, market research
• Product development and product launch
• Identifying unique selling points
• Branding, marketing and communications
• Business plans and feasibility studies
• Selecting routes to market
• Packaging, Distribution, Logistics
• Costing, pricing, managing finance
• Food safety and legislation
• State agency supports and sources of funds
• Case studies

Food Academy Start Programme - Beginning 8th May 2018

Local Enterprise Office Cavan is offering Cavan Food Businesses the opportunity to participate in a regional Food Academy Start Programme along with other food businesses from Monaghan, Louth and Meath.

Food Academy Start has been developed by Bord Bia, SuperValu and the Local Enterprise Offices specifically to support new and early stage food businesses.

The programme will begin on 8th May 2018 in Virginia Show Centre, County Cavan.

Participants will be required to attend 6 workshop/training days in total between May and August 2018.

At the final workshop, successful participants will have an opportunity to pitch their products to SuperValu for trials in local stores. Those who are successful will see their products 'Go-Live' in store in October 2018.

• Understand your market and your consumer
• Develop your brand’s unique selling proposition
• Understand the basics of pricing, margins and promotions
• Learn the essentials of food safety, packaging and labelling
• Prepare your marketing plan and retailer pitch
• Pitch to SuperValu for trial in local stores
