Invest4Success: Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon lead the way

Invest4Success highlights the four counties, who are partners in the Uppers Shannon Erne Region Future Economy (USEFE) project, as a region of opportunity for jobs, investment and tourism.

Hundreds of people attend Investment Conference in Croke Park to meet leading businesses who were offering jobs and demonstrating the advantages of locating in the region.

The Counties of Cavan, Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon took centre stage at the Invest4Success seminar in Croke Park on Thursday evening. A large crowd came to hear from leading business in the region. The event attracted many jobseekers looking to return to the region for work.

The free expo heard the story of many different organisations such as Vistamed, Abbot Diagnostics and Cora Systems. Raj Singh-Dehal of Center Parcs said that they were extremely committed to the region and would be providing 750 construction jobs and 1,000 full time jobs when they open. He pointed to the good road network, proximity to Dublin and the large availability of a committed workforce as reasons for locating in the region

Eugene Cummins, Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council said:

‘This event was very important to us. We had to show investors and our diaspora that the region is open for business and has huge growth potential. The co-operation and synergies that the four counties bring together was clearly evident at the event. It provided a valuable networking opportunity but it is only our first step. The challenge now is to look at the wider potential opportunities for investment in the Upper Shannon Erne Region. We want to build on the success of this expo and prove that regional development is not just a platitude but something that is real and clearly evident on the ground.’

A diverse range of local SME’s also attended and displayed the many different new businesses that have grown and developed in the region. Pat Rigney of the Shed Distillery Drumshanbo Co Leitrim said that his only regret was that he had not located his business there earlier:

“This is a growing region. There is a real sense of community and a willingness to welcome and help business. Employees value a better quality of life, access to the best of schools, strong communities and affordable housing. The jobs on offer are of a high quality with significant career opportunities. There is much to look forward to and we want to welcome people back to the region with offers of firm and stable employment. We were delighted to be part of Invest4success to showcase exactly what can be achieved when people work together.”

This movement from the four counties marks a major step in providing recognition that this region is open for business and ready for further development.

The Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy Project is a joint initiative between the counties of Cavan, Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon in conjunction with Bord na Mona and the ESB. The success of the project in bringing together businesses across food, creative, renewable energy and tourism led to a unique partnership at local authority and business level to highlight and maximise the potential of this region which crosses three provinces. Other sectors involved are ICT and healthcare/pharma.
