05/10/2014 - Small businesses encouraged to set-up in Fingal

Food, Technology, Digital Media and Finance all on menu for Fingal Enterprise Week

Fingal in Dublin is the ideal location along the East Coast for setting up or growing a small business, according to the organisers of the annual Fingal Enterprise Week.

As Ireland’s fastest growing county, its infrastructure and transport advantages, such as Dublin International Airport, are also being highlighted to the small business community this week.

Co-ordinated by Local Enterprise Office Fingal, Fingal Enterprise Week 2014 will host fifteen business seminars and networking events across the region from October 6th to 10th 2014.  Business advice clinics and an opportunity to meet a range of government agencies will also be available during the week.

Oisin Geoghegan, Head of Local Enterprise Office Fingal said: “Fingal, with its highly educated young population, is an ideal base for setting up or growing a small business. Catering for start-ups and established businesses, Fingal Enterprise Week 2014 will give small business owners and entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain insights and support from industry experts, key agencies and the business community.”

He added: “From technology and strategy to branding and design, the 2014 programme has been devised to meet the needs of local entrepreneurs and those wanting to set up a business in Fingal.”

Now in its fifth year, the annual event is organised in association with Vodafone Ireland, Regus, Bank of Ireland and Newstalk.

Technology will be first in the spotlight at this year’s Fingal Enterprise Week with ‘Future Tech Trends’ kicking off on Monday, October 6th. Featuring predictions from Google’s David O’Mahony, Andy O’Donoghue of Beaumex and John Beckett from Eirtight Technology, on what technology trends will impact on business life in 2015 and beyond, a series of Social Media and Digital Marketing workshops will also be running throughout the week.

‘Strategic Thinking’ will be the topic of discussion for Nicola Byrne, co-founder and Chief Executive of 11890, who will talk about making hard business choices at a breakfast seminar on Tuesday, 7th October, while that afternoon, the ‘Next Generation of Innovators’ workshop will welcome aspiring entrepreneurs from local primary and secondary schools, as part of the Fingal Student Enterprise Awards Programme.

Later that evening, the topical issue of ‘Food-On-The Move’ will be in focus for the Dublin Food Chain event, in association with the Dublin region Local Enterprise Offices, Bord Bia and Irish Exporters Association.

In association with Vodafone Ireland, Wednesday, October 8th is ‘Fingal Start-Up Day.’ A full day tailored to the needs of those in the process of setting up a new business, expert advice and practical information is planned, alongside insights from Sonya Lennon, the tech fashion entrepreneur and designer.

The networking highlight of the week will be ‘Success Leaves Clues’ on Thursday, October 8th, hosted by broadcaster Ian Guider and featuring Keynote Speaker, Sean Gallagher. Sean will be sharing business lessons learned both from his own experience and that of Irish entrepreneurs around the country. It will also be an opportunity to meet the Fingal Enterprise Award winner for 2014 and the Winners representing Fingal in the ‘Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur’ competition.

The final day of Fingal Enterprise Week, Friday, October 10th will see communications expert Terry Prone of The Communications Clinic  head a panel of PR and branding specialists in ‘Get Noticed: Branding, Communications and PR for SMEs’, while a visual merchandising workshop will be held for craft and design businesses in partnership with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland.
