Karen Wilson is an artist based in the Fingal area, specifically in the beautiful seaside town of Skerries Co. Dublin. Karen is largely self-taught and has adopted a unique style using a palette knife rather than brushes to create magnificent floral landscapes and seascapes characterised by thick, buttery layers of colourful paint that brings vibrancy, texture and movement to each piece.
Living near the coast of Skerries has provided Karen with great inspiration for many of her paintings such as beaches, gardens and harbours. Through these paintings Karen captures a sense of joy, energy and connection to nature, encouraging viewers to develop a deeper appreciation for everyday landscapes.
Since 2014, Skerries Mills has been home to a studio and gallery showcasing the work of Karen Wilson. As well as original paintings, Karen has taken her most popular paintings and developed a range of prints, greeting cards, silk scarves and cotton blankets. Her art is displayed not only in Irish galleries but internationally, helping to expand her audience beyond local visitors.
A strong partnership with the Fingal Local Enterprise Office has supported the growth and visibility of Karen Wilson Art. In 2024, Karen Wilson Art was selected by Fingal LEO to exhibit at Showcase Ireland in the RDS, Dublin. Participation in this event enabled Karen to showcase her artwork and product range to thousands of national and international buyers, retailers and industry professionals.
Fingal LEO has also supported Karen's business development through Business Expansion Grants, the Market Explorer Grant, mentoring, networking opportunities, business seminars, and training programmes.
Sustainability is also a core focus of Karen Wilson Art. As the business continues to grow, a commitment to implement sustainable practices has been put into action through their participation in the Fingal LEO Green for Business programme. This programme supported the development of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan to measure environmental impact, identify areas for improvement and implement practical sustainability measures.
