Crafting for Scale: Growth Bootcamp
Day 1: Tuesday, 8th September
Session 1: Where Are You Now? (Business & Skills Audit)
Participants audit the current state of their business - revenue, channels, margins, capacity - and complete an explicit personal skills audit: what got the business to this point, and what capability gaps need to close for it to scale.
Outcomes:
- Establish an honest baseline: revenue, channels, margins, time-versus-income reality
- Assess whether the current model is scalable or simply busy
- Complete a Personal Skills Audit identifying capability gaps for growth.
- Produce a Growth Gap Map to carry through the rest of the programme
Session 2: Business Model for Scale
Participants examine craft business model types - maker-led, product-led, and hybrid and the trade-off between margin and volume. This session also carries a brief, decision-level look at digital and sales tools (e.g. e-commerce platforms, listings, online routes to market) so participants know what's available, without the deep platform training of the original 6-session format.
Outcomes
- Understand the main craft business model types and where the current business sits
- Identify when the business model itself (not effort) is the constraint on growth
- Redesign the current model into low, medium and high-scale ambition versions
- Gain baseline awareness of digital routes to market to inform Day 2 systems planning.
Session 3: Sales Channels & Diversification
A structured look at sales channel diversification: B2C (markets, e-commerce, direct selling), B2B (wholesale, retail partnerships), B2G (public procurement and commissions), and export pathways. The emphasis shifts participants from opportunistic selling to structured, repeatable pipelines.
Outcomes
- Map current versus potential sales channels across B2C, B2B, B2G and export
- Assess each channel for margin, effort and scale potential
- Shift thinking from 'selling products' to 'building revenue streams'
Session 4: Selling Smarter — Pricing Psychology & Positioning
Participants revisit their USP, packaging and positioning through a commercial lens, then rework their offer, pricing ladder and sales pitch ready to take into Day 2's financial work.
Outcomes
- Apply pricing psychology beyond simple cost-plus thinking
- Sharpen real differentiation versus stated USP
- Rework packaging and positioning for perceived value
- Leave with a revised offer, pricing ladder and sales pitch.
End of Day 1 — Participants Leave With:
- A completed Growth Gap Map and Personal Skills Audit
- A clear direction for their business model (low / medium / high scale)
- Identified priority sales channels
- A structured Fieldwork Pack for the week gap (see below)
Day 2: Tuesday, 15th September
Session 1: Financial Reality & Ambition Shift
Participants work through the numbers that matter, gross margin, net margin, cash flow versus profit and confront the common mistakes seen in craft businesses: under-pricing, missing labour costs, and hidden losses.
Outcomes
- Understand gross margin, net margin and cash flow versus profit
- Identify the specific pricing and costing mistakes present in their own business
- Complete a real product costing and break-even calculation using their own figures
Session 2: Pricing for Profit & Growth
Participants move from survival pricing to strategic pricing, covering wholesale versus retail structures, export pricing, and how to build margin deliberately into growth plans. Outcomes
- Distinguish survival pricing from strategic, growth-oriented pricing
- Understand wholesale, retail and export pricing structures
- Fix the pricing on one real product line and apply a margin target
Session 3: Systems & Implementation Roadmap
A decision-level session, (not platform training) on the systems that unlock growth: inventory management, order handling, customer tracking and e-commerce workflows, and the time-versus-money trade-off of what to automate versus outsource. Outcomes
- Identify which systems (inventory, orders, CRM, e-commerce) would unlock the most capacity
- Decide what to automate and what to outsource
- Build a Simple Scalable Systems Map for the business
Session 4: The Growth Action Plan (Integrated)
Participants pull the two days together into a single Growth Action Plan, then, time permitting, pitch their direction to the group for peer and expert feedback.
Outcomes
- Finalise a business model decision and sales channel strategy
- Set financial targets and corrected pricing
- Agree systems improvements and a 90-day implementation plan
- Optional: short peer pitch and feedback round
