The Central Bank of Ireland (the Central Bank) is seeking views for a retail payments study

The National Payment Strategy, published in October 2024, assigned a number of recommendations to the Central Bank. Included among these is conducting research on the comparative usage, efficiency, and costs of retail payment methods (Future Outcome 8.1.2). For more details on this study, please see a dedicated webpage here.

The Central Bank is now asking consumer-facing firms in Ireland to complete a survey on their experience of retail payments. This includes questions on the cost of each payment method, as well as their usage by customers and advantages or disadvantages that businesses associate with each method.

The survey is being distributed by Red C on behalf of the Central Bank. All responses will be anonymous. A report will be published later this year, which will outline the average cost of offering each payment method.
