Local Entrepreneur, Alicia Treanor of Nutri-Snax Ltd, features in IBYE 2015 National Final
A young Cavan entrepreneur recently won a place in the national final of the prestigious 'Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur' competition, for a chance to share a €100,000 investment fund.
Alicia Treanor of Nutri-Snax Ltd., based in Poles, Co. Cavan, represented the region in the Best Established Business category at the national final in Dublin on 6th December 2015. Alicia had already won €20,000 in investment from Local Enterprise Office Cavan by emerging as County winner in her category earlier in October 2015.
Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur competition is an integral part of the Action Plan for Jobs and is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through the 31 Local Enterprise Offices around the country.
IBYE 2015 Regional Finals hosted by LEO Cavan, November 3rd 2015
At the IBYE Regional final, hosted by LEO Cavan in Cabra Castle Hotel, Kingscourt on 3rd November 2015, three local business owners and new start-ups from County Cavan, all under the age of 30, went head-to-head with nine other County winners from Monaghan, Louth and Meath.
All twelve nominees were interviewed by a three member judging panel and had to deliver a business pitch, live on the day. Assessed on criteria such as business innovation, job creation potential and financial planning, the announcement of the national finalists was made at the reception in Cabra Castle Hotel, attended by special guests Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash, T.D. and Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation, Damien English T.D.
The three young entrepreneurs who represented Cavan in the regional finals on 3rd November in Cabra Castle Hotel were:
Best Business Idea: Tyrone Do Couto, Real Dynamics
Best Start Up Business: Norman Ormiston, BearRubber
Best Established Business: Alicia Treanor, Nutri-Snax Ltd.
IBYE 2015 Cavan County Finals
County’s Best Young Entrepreneurs Win €50,000 Investment
Three of the county’s best young entrepreneurs have won a total investment of €50,000 through the Local Enterprise Office Cavan, as part of the €2 million Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition (#IBYE).
Aimed at young and aspiring entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 30, Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition is an integral part of the Action Plan for Jobs and is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through the network of 31 Local Enterprise Offices.
At a ceremony in the Radisson Farnham Estate Hotel on Friday October 2nd 2015, awards were announced for Best Start-Up, Best New Idea, and Best Established Business, as well as an Overall Award for the Best Young Entrepreneur in the County.
The local winners and investments won were as follows:
Best New Idea (winning a €10,000 investment): Tyrone do Couto, Real Dynamics, Carrickaboy, Co. Cavan
Best Start-Up (winning a €20,000 investment): Norman Ormiston, BearRubber, Virginia, Co. Cavan
Best Established Business (winning a €20,000 investment): Alicia Treanor, NutriSnax Ltd, Poles, Co. Cavan
Alicia Treanor from NutriSnax Ltd was also named as County Cavan’s Best Young Entrepreneur.

Marking the occasion, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said:
“Central to our plans for jobs and growth is supporting more businesses to start-up. Two thirds of all new jobs are created by start-ups, so if we are to create the jobs we need we must support more entrepreneurs to start new businesses. Part of this plan is also fostering a stronger culture of entrepreneurship and promoting start-up business as a career option for young people. That is what is behind this new competition to find the best young entrepreneur also ultimately Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur. We have excellent start-ups and entrepreneurs in Ireland – we just don’t have enough of them. It is great to see so many excellent entrepreneurs and business-people getting involved in this competition, and I am delighted to congratulate the local winners. I wish all three winners every success in the later stages of the competition – and wish all participants every success as they grow their businesses and contribute to the job-creation we need”.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vincent Reynolds, Head of Enterprise from the Local Enterprise Office Cavan, paid tribute to all the young entrepreneurs in the region, saying:
“As the first stop shop for entrepreneurs and small businesses, it is heartening to see a growing and vibrant community of young entrepreneurs locally. Through Business Bootcamps, mentoring and general business advice, the Local Enterprise Office plays a vital role in supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs, on a year-round basis.”
Our three local winners will now represent Cavan at the Regional Final on November 3rd 2015 in Cabra Castle, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan compeiting with the County winners from Monaghan, Meath and Louth.
A total of 24 finalists will then compete at the Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur National Finals in Dublin in December 2015.
