This course is designed for beginners, those who have never used a bookkeeping system before or those looking to refresh their knowledge of how a simple book-keeping system works.

This one day in person workshop will be delivered in the South Court Hotel Rahen on February 11th from 9.30am to 4pm. The course has been designed for beginners or those with little Bookkeeping experience who want to learn how to build a basic excel based bookkeping system. 

Outline of the course: 

  • Basic Financial Statements and understanding
  • Profit and Loss Account explained and demonstrated
  • Cost of Sales, Margin & Mark Up
  • Cash Flow – managing cash, debtors, creditors, stock, bank etc
  • Difference between Profit and Cashflow
  • Limited Company v’s Sole Trader
  • Balance Sheet
  • Budgeting – Principles of and how to use
  • Cashflow Mgmt – Simple forecasts and complex

Building a simple P&L accounting system on Excel from scratch – learn how to construct the sheets, use formula’s, link pages together etc. This will give you a thorough understanding of how accounts are constructed and how to record transactions.


Participants will be challenged during the course of the day to complete exercises such as;

1. Financial Accounts Model – will be asked to build their own book-keeping system using Excel from beginning to end.
2. How to record and update the accounts – learn how to input data for different headings of their business (ie Sales, Cost of Sales, Overheads, Assets etc).
