How to Write a Business Plan
Dates: 11th & 18th February 2026
Time: 9:30am – 1:00pm
Format: Live online, instructor-led workshop
This programme is designed to help businesses prepare a robust, comprehensive business plan and develop the confidence to discuss it knowledgeably with funders and key stakeholders. The course also explains how funders assess business plans, highlighting common issues and mistakes seen in real-world applications.
Participants will explore the importance of business planning and when to plan, the purpose of a business plan, and the differences between a Lean Canvas approach and a full business plan. The programme examines how to develop a clear overall message and breaks down the six core elements of an effective business plan.
The course places strong emphasis on understanding who the plan is for, particularly where funding is being sought. Participants will learn how evaluators assess plans using the CAMPARI model, recognising that funders are primarily focused on money and risk. The business plan will also be positioned as a communication and “selling” tool, rather than a once-off document.
Key areas covered include
- Setting clear objectives and SMART goals;
- Conducting SWOT and PESTLE analysis;
- Developing a focused marketing plan using the 4Ps and 3Ms;
- Preparing realistic financial projections, including profit and loss and cash flow over appropriate timeframes.
The programme also covers business owner development, organisational structure, credit reports and the Central Credit Register, additional information commonly requested by funders, and how to use the business plan to monitor progress and drive business growth.
This course will be delivered by Marie Manning of Manning Associates
