LEAN Westmeath - Faster, Better, Cheaper

In this lunch time event, you will learn about the benefits of Lean business and how it has been applied effectively in a range of businesses in Westmeath.

You will hear how progressive companies in Westmeath have applied Lean business principles to solve major operational challenges, make significant cost savings, engage and empower staff, and develop a culture of continuous improvement.  This is initiative can be implemented across a range of sectors

An introduction to Lean business will be delivered by Robert Hernan, LEAN Business Section, Enterprise Ireland. Followed by Q&A session with a selection of companies, based in Westmeath, who have successfully implemented Lean business programmes.

Seamus Bracken, Bracken's Butchers was established in 1990. They have received numerous awards for their meat over the past number of years. The meat is top quality and is locally sourced, produced to the highest standards and matured traditionally resulting in tender succulent meat with unbeatable flavour. They take pride in their award-winning homemade pork sausages, available in chilli and coriander, garlic and herb and cocktail sausages. Seamus took part in the LEAN programme in 2019 and huge savings were made regarding packaging costs, energy assessments and in waste management.  

Eamon Brady, Whelehans Pharmacy has been serving the people of Mullingar, Westmeath and surrounding areas since 1898. Offering excellent and personalized customer service, their friendly and highly trained staff are always on hand to give assistance and advice. Eamonn Brady, Managing Director took part in the LEAN program in 2018 and 2019 and benefited immensely from significant savings due to applying what the team had learned throughout the program.

Keith Nolan, Printing.Com/Athlone Printing are a full-service print company ranging from General Commercial Printing to Memorial Cards, Thesis Printing, Wedding Stationery, Signage and a General everyday quick print service. Having completed the Lean programme in 2019, they achieved significant savings due to workplace organisation; equipment and stock have been relocated to increase efficiency and create flow.  Processes were analysed and value created through removal of waste, everything is thought about and planned, which makes everybody's life easier. The team are much happier in their work environment and turnaround times have greatly improved.

Jonathan Acton, Home Instead Senior Care offers affordable in-home care services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  They work with a care coordinator to set a care schedule that works best for the client and their family.  Jonathan completed the LEAN programme in 2019 and productivity, scheduling and cost saving features were introduced allowing a greater opportunity for staff members to contribute ideas and make improvement suggestions, KPI's were introduced allowing staff to take ownership of their role within the organization.

Lean is about being effective and efficient - doing things quicker, better, cheaper. Lean strives to stamp out waste and to continually improve.

Lean tools and techniques are helping companies across all sectors and all sections from e.g. production, business processes but also sales and financial analysis and strategy.

The techniques are used to address competitiveness issues within their businesses, building the capability of their people to identify issues and improve their operations. Lean is about being effective and efficient - doing things quicker, better, cheaper…together. Lean strives to stamp out waste and to continually improve.
