Carlow County Museum Collects Recognition Awards.

Councillor Walter Lacey and Councillor Denis Foley, Cathaoirleach of Muinebheag Local Electoral Area, were on hand to assist Museum Curator Dermot Mulligan when Carlow County Museum collected Special Glór na nGael Certificates of Recognition for the use of the Irish language in the museum at a Gala Awards event in Barberstown Castle recently. All museum displays and information panels are bilingual. Irish versions of all its brochures and publications are available.

The exhibition on the story of the Irish language in Carlow since 1899, launched last year by Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, is still on show in the top gallery of the museum.  An Irish Conversation Circle which meets in the museum every Wednesday morning from 10.30 - 11.30a.m. also got particular mention by the adjudicators.  Museum Admission is free and opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10am to 4:30pm.

Speaking on behalf of Glór Cheatharlach after the awards ceremony, Bríde de Róiste thanked the entire Carlow community for its ongoing support for the promotion of Irish.“More events and activities will continue the promotion of  Irish throughout the coming year”, she said.
