Christmas Lights kick off a month of festive fun for all the family

 Saturday 24th November 2018 is the official kick off for the festive season 2018

With the official festive family programme starting with turning on the lights in Carlow Town at 5.00pm at the Liberty Tree, Potato Market, Carlow. In Carlow Town the Mayor will be doing the honours – while Santa himself is also set to make a special appearance. The lights kick off a month of County Carlow – Festive Family across the County with over 100 events with local incentives such as free parking to encourage people to shop local and support County Carlow this Christmas.

In the build-up to the lights will be the annual Eist Candlelight Walk of Hope which commences at 4.30pm from Bank of Ireland, Shamrock Plaza, Carlow which is a community led event.

Speaking about the importance of the festive season, Ken Murnane, Mayor of the Municipal District of Carlow said, “Christmas is all about family and we in Carlow County Council are delighted to play our part in support of this important time of year.” The Mayor continued to say, “I’d like to acknowledge everybody who plays their part in creating the overall Christmas programme including community groups, County Carlow Chamber, and the business community and hope that hundreds of families will come out and celebrate the turning on of Carlow Town’s Christmas lights.”

To promote shopping local, Carlow County Council are providing Free car parking for the period Saturday 24th November 2018 to Sunday 6th January 2019 (inclusive) in the Town Hall, Bus Park, Green Bank Road, and VISUAL car parks. With all other Pay and Display Parking Zones Free Parking is available only from 9.30am to 12noon and from 3.00pm to 6.30pm for the period Saturday 24th November 2018 to Sunday 6th January 2019 inclusive. Speaking about the free parking Kathleen Holohan, Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said, “shopping local is so important this time of year and Carlow Town and our rural towns and villages have so many quality customer experiences and offers that we encourage everybody to shop local this year.” Holohan continued to say, “free parking is just one way we can offer support to families in the run up to Christmas to ensure Carlow Town is accessible for all.” Holohan concluded by saying, “employment in the Retail Sector is really important to the County Carlow economy and by buying locally you are supporting not just local jobs but also local communities and families.”
