Communities benefit from Life Saving Equipment presentation

County Carlow Town and Village Supports

Five County Carlow communities were presented with Life Saving equipment following the recent council meeting hosted on 10th April 2017 under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme. The communities of Borris, Hacketstown, Muinebheag, Rathvilly and Tullow all received potential lifesaving equipment and training, in the hope of saving the lives of cardiac arrest sufferers.

The defibrillators were presented by the Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council John Murphy, Mayor of Carlow Fintan Phelan; and Cathaoirleach of Bagenalstown Municipal District Tommy Kinsella and are part of a package of supports provided under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme.

Speaking about the presentation of equipment Cllr. John Murphy, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said “I welcome the presentation of this lifesaving equipment and the engagement with communities who will location these unit so they can be easily found in an emergency”. Cllr Murphy continued to say “Access to such a device has been proven to save lives. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, there's a critical — and very short — period during which the heart can be restarted before there is permanent damage or death”.

Speaking at the presentation, Deputy Chief Executive of Carlow County Council Dan McInerney said “he was delighted that Carlow County Council could actively work with communities under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme in order to address the needs as seen by the residents of our many Towns & Villages”, McInerney continued to say "At any time there can be hundreds of people living and working in our Towns & Villages and if having the defibrillator available saves one life, that's worth far more than can be valued against the investment of this equipment."
