Carlow County Council has opened it Streetscape Enhancement Scheme for 2024 with €50,000 funding available across the County for eligible premises.

Carlow County Council invites owners and occupiers of commercial premises in the County to revitalise their premises by participating in the County Carlow - Streetscape Enhancement Scheme. This initiative aims to transform the facades of businesses through painting and shop front improvements, providing financial support to successful applicants.

The Streetscape Enhancement Scheme, open for applications until March 29th 2024, offers a unique opportunity for property owners to enhance their establishments. Financial aid of up to 80% of eligible costs will be provided by Carlow County Council, with the remaining costs covered by the applicant. The upgrade works encompass a range of improvements, including painting, repairs, decluttering, new signage, outside lighting, and window display design/merchandising.

Cllr. Andrea Dalton, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, welcomed the scheme, stating, "The County Carlow - Streetscape Enhancement Scheme is a fantastic initiative for businesses in our community. It not only provides financial assistance but also encourages a vibrant and attractive streetscape that benefits us all. I strongly encourage property owners and occupiers to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance the appeal of our town."

The minimum upgrade cost is €1,250, resulting in a grant of €1,000, while more substantial upgrades are encouraged. A community group package is available for 2024, offering collective benefits for participating businesses. Enhancement works and fund drawdown must be completed by October 1st 2024.

For the Streetscape Paint Scheme 2024, eligible streets in Carlow Town include Tullow Street Lower, Tullow Street Upper, Castle Street, Kennedy Avenue, Dublin Street, Potato Market, and Barrack Street. In Tullow Municipal District, the focus is on Tullow & Ballon, and in Muine Bheag Municipal District, the focus is on Borris & Bagenalstown.

The scheme is operated by the Local Enterprise Office in Carlow County Council and Linda Culleton, Economic Development Officer said, "A well-maintained and visually appealing streetscape fosters a sense of pride and belonging. The County Carlow - Streetscape Enhancement Scheme is a great way to bring the community together and make your town a more inviting place for residents and visitors alike."
