Carlow County Council in partnership with Carlow Town Team, today 17th July 2015 published a report on retailing on Tullow Street & Dublin Street.
The report outlined the importance of the retail sector in Carlow as an important part of the economic base of the County. The report was carried out by the Economic Executive in the Council to determine how many vacant properties there are in Carlow Town Centre through a property survey and what products and services are desired by consumers in Carlow Town Centre through a public retail survey.
Speaking about the report, Dan Mc Inerney, Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said “This report is an important tool in the development of solutions for our Town Centre and gives us a baseline to grow from and also determines what people would like to see on Carlow Oldest streets”. Mc Inerney outlined “that it is clear that the solution lies in a partnership approach going forward and the Local Enterprise Office will continue to work on this and many other issues which face our business community”.
Mc Inerney committed that “the Local Enterprise Office would roll out a number of the reports recommendations which includes a variety of incentives and projects aimed to generate activity but highlighted the requirement to work in partnership with potential entrepreneurs in the development of new retail offerings”.
The report highlighted what people would like to see in terms of the streetscape offering and Mc Inerney concluded by saying “the challenge has now been set for anyone who wants to start and develop their own business to embrace the findings of this report and with the assistance of the Local Enterprise Office look into the development of these idea’s”.
Speaking about the report Kieran Comerford, Head of Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office Carlow said “It’s clear from the report that our primary focus is to put in place a framework which will improve the retail sector in Carlow, and offer valuable incentives to retailers to help grow their businesses and bringing more foot-fall to Carlow town centre”
