On 5th November 2015 over 20 Food Companies from across Carlow descended on Enterprise House to launch the County Carlow Food Tourism Project.
This exciting new food tourism project has been created as result of a funding application to Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and presents a €61,500 investment in marketing for Food Tourism Enterprises for County Carlow during 2015.
At the briefing was Carolyn Wilkinson from Carlow Tourism, stated " that its well known that County Carlow has some fantastic sights and scenery but not so well known is the abundance of food and drink producing industries and destinations nestled amongst our towns, villages and beautiful country side, Carlow is a fantastic food and drink tourist destination, and this initiative will certainly reinforce Carlow on the Food tourism map and make available to a national and international audience a listing of Carlow food producers"
The attendees at the briefing meeting were given an informative and compelling talk by Margaret Hoctor on the importance and connection of product branding and it connection to tourism, Margaret said “Tourism is worth 2 billion to the food industry in Ireland and 7 out of 10 Irish adults agree that its important to buy local so this initiative to endorse this food tourism is an excellent opportunity for all involved"
Outlining the project, Kieran Comerford – head of Enterprise said “This progressive new project which comprises of three stages will include a comprehensive and highly visual published directory brochure featuring Carlow's food producers. Product and portrait photography of food producers and videos portraying Carlow ultimate food destinations".
As part of the project there will be a Showcase Event, called Carlow's Culinary Christmas the event will include the launch of the Carlow Food Directory. The Culinary Christmas event will take place in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre @ Visual Carlow on the 9th of December at 7PM, where celebrity Chef Catherine Fulvio will give a cookery demonstration using a selection of Carlow's finest food products. This showcase event is designed for all young and old will be free to the public and bookings will be open from 12th November 2015.
