In an increasingly fast-paced world, it's easy to forget the simple joys that bind us all together - the warmth of family and the shared love for food. A launch held in Carlow Library recently (19th October 2023) was  thrilled to introduce an enchanting new book that beautifully weaves these timeless themes together, inviting readers to embark on a heart-warming journey of taste, tradition, and togetherness called Generations - A County Carlow Story of Family and Food.

Speaking about the publication , Cllr. Andrea Dalton, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said “Generations - A County Carlow Story of Family and Food. takes readers on an unforgettable journey, celebrating the sacred connection between food and family. This beautifully written book is a heart-warming tale of love, tradition, and the culinary delights that have the power to unite generations”

"Food has the unique ability to bridge generations and bring families together," says Cllr. Dalton "Through the stories, recipes, and cherished moments shared in this book, I hope to inspire readers to appreciate the significance of family bonds and the magic of shared meals. Every recipe, every anecdote, and every page of this book is a celebration of love, nostalgia, and the simple pleasures of life."

Speaking at the launch of the Chief Executive of Carlow County Council, said “This book not only offers a glimpse into the flavours and traditions of our County, but it also tells a story about the people, families, and communities who have contributed to our unique food heritage. The book also demonstrates the passion of our teams in the Local Enterprise Office and Library Service who developed this publication as a narrative to add to the heritage fabric of Carlow while also promoting the County”

“As the saying goes, "You are what you eat," and in County Carlow, we are the sum of generations of culinary traditions and stories, each layer building upon the last. This book captures this beautifully, by taking us on a journey through time and taste. It showcases the recipes that our grandparents used to prepare, the ingredients they sourced, and the stories behind these dishes that have been passed down from generation to generation”
