Local Enterprise Office Provides Social Media Training

Digital Marketing is an essential tool for all tourism businesses and recent years has seen rapid growth in website and social media activity within the tourism sector. Carlow Local Enterprise Office is kindly facilitating a 4-week course in social media for all members of Carlow Tourism, which will be delivered by Lorna Sixsmith who has significant expertise in this area. The aim of this course is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of how social media and the internet works. With minimum outlay you too can interact with customers and potential customersbuild your on-line presence and generate business.

Course Content

This is an excellent opportunity to familiarise yourself with social media and the opportunities it presents for YOUR business. The limited number of attendees also enables us to tailor the learning process to the individual requirements of the group. 

Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of computers. .

Week 1 – Facebook

  • Setting up your Facebook Profile – uploading a profile picture, cover photo and details of your premises (location, about section and history with timelines)
  • Manage your privacy settings and find friends
  • Setting up a business page
  • How to create compelling updates
  • How to maximise the opportunities for your target market to see  your updates in their newsfeed 
  • Posting photos, video and links
  • Competition rules and guidelines
  • Assigning a number of administrators to manage a page  
  • How to use facebook to increase sales and generate more traffic  for your website

Week 2 – Website, Blogging and Pinterest

Thursday, 27th November 2014 7pm – 10 p.m.

  • How to find highly searched keywords and improve search engine  optimisation
  • How to write a compelling meta description
  • The essential anatomy of a blog post
  • Images
  • How to increase social shares 
  • How to turn browsers into buyers 
  • How to achieve free press coverage via your social media stories
  • Introduction to Pinterest
  • How to ensure your website images will work well on Pinterest and achieve re-pins. 
  • How to attract your target market on Pinterest

Week 3 - Twitter for Business

Thursday, 4th December 2014   7pm – 10 p.m.

  • Main features, policies and benefits of twitter
  • Setting up a Twitter Profile
  • The language of twitter
  • Best practice within twitter
  • Tweets that succeed – creating engaging content
  • Hashtag, advanced search and twitter lists
  • How to find people talking about your industry and asking questions you can answer.
  • Integrating with other social networking sites
  • Using hootsuite – save time by streamlining your social media activities

Week 4 - Other social media channels - Linked In, Google + and developing a social media strategy for your business

  • Best practice within Linked In
  • Essentials for your Linked In profile
  • How to connect with other people
  • How to use groups effectively
  • How to use G+ effectively in 5 minutes per day
  • How to develop a social media strategy for your business: How to plan and schedule your content for the next 3 months. 

About Lorna Sixsmith 

Lorna Sixsmith has been using social media effectively since 2008 and set up Write on Track in 2011 to deliver training. She provides training on social media to small and medium businesses, often in collaboration with the Carlow and Laois Local Enterprise Offices.  Within her teaching, she adopts a practical approach so business owners can achieve significant results within realistic timeframes. Lorna has achieved significant press coverage over the last five years, most of which is due to her social media usage and she shows business owners how to do the same.
