Our Rural Future supports Car Park Development in Borris

Cllr.Arthur Mc Donald, Cathaoirleach of Muine Bheag Municipal District has officially opened the new Borris Car Park which was developed under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme under our Rural Future.

Representing an investment of over €150,000 the project was spearheaded by the Jerry Crowley in the Area Office who was responsible for delivery of the project.

Commenting on the project Cllr. Arthur Mc Donald, Cathaoirleach said “I am delighted to see this project completed in Borris which will further enhance Borris as a place to live, visit and experience and provide much needed facilities for the Town”. The Cathaoirleach continued to say, “For South Carlow it's so important that we continue to drive forward a series of projects and this project is an example of what can happen when we all work together we can deliver for the County”.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is an initiative under the Action Plan for Rural Development and is part of a package of national and local support measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland through the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 Rural Regeneration Programme. The Scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by the Local Authorities.

Speaking about the vision for South Carlow under Our Rural Future, Director of Services, Padraig O’Gorman said “Under Our Rural Future we have a series of ambitious projects for South County Carlow under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme and the other schemes under Our Rural Future”. Padraig continued to say, “These projects will breathe new life into our towns and villages and are real life examples of the impact that Our Rural Future is having in communities across the country”.  Commenting on the requirement for ongoing central government funding, Padraig concluded by saying “It is acknowledged that many of our towns and villages need investment to improve and extend local facilities and amenities and we look forward to a continued relationship with the Department to support their commitment to rural development”.

The Town & Village Renewal Fund is co-ordinated by the Local Enterprise Office and Pierce Kavanagh, Economic Development Officer said, “we are delighted to see this project completed which part of a series of projects which are currently being finalized in County Carlow”. “The Town & Village fund has provided much needed funding to the County and we look forward to the continued working in partnership with our communities and stakeholders in the delivery of these projects”.
