Student Enterprise Christmas Markets

Established by the network of Local Enterprise Offices, the Student Enterprise Programme is now running in Carlow schools for over two decades. The programme is specifically designed to give students an opportunity to experience first-hand how to set up and run their own business. As part of this initiative, Local Enterprise Office Carlow is delighted to announce that young entrepreneurs from schools all over the county will be participating in a dedicated Student Enterprise Christmas Market at The Exchange in Carlow town, taking place on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th December from 11am. Participation in this market allows students the opportunity to showcase and exhibit their business ideas outside of their own school environment to a wider audience.

So far this year, there are just under 900 students registered to take part in the Student Enterprise Programme across 9 schools in County Carlow. Throughout the academic year, students are exposed to all of the realities and challenges faced when setting up and running a small business as they navigate each stage of business development from market research and production to marketing and selling. This is all with a view to unearthing and developing entrepreneurial skills as well as bringing self-employment to the fore as a viable career choice for the future.

At the launch, Sarah Byrne , Business Advisor from LEO Carlow said "We are delighted to launch the Student Enterprise Programme Christmas Market for the academic year 2023/24. This year we have record numbers partaking in the programme across the county. The Student Enterprise Programme is all about encouraging and developing our next generation of small business owners, and this market gives students an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world trading experience. From handcrafted gifts to tasty treats and much more, there is sure to be something for everyone and we encourage family, friends and the wider community to come out and support our young student entrepreneurs on December 7th and 8th at The Exchange which is located in Potato Market in the heart of Carlow town.”

The Student Enterprise Christmas Markets will take place on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th December from 11am at The Exchange, Potato Market, Carlow. The Beat 102 103 fleet will be dropping by and there will be spot prizes for some lucky shoppers who support our student businesses.
