Taste in Carlow Tour promotes Counties fantastic food and drink offering

Carlow County Councils – Local Enterprise Office in partnership with KCLR with the support of County Carlow Chamber & Carlow Tourism have launched the Taste in Carlow Tour in partnership with KCLR which aims to promote all things food and drink over the coming months from County Carlow.

The tour involves a series of outside broadcasts with KCLR which will feature stories from local food and drink producers and hospitality establishments such as pubs, restaurants, hotels and coffee shops.  The Tour will visit Carlow Town, Tullow, Leighlinbridge & Borris over 5 dates during September & October and local businesses can get involved by contacting the Local Enterprise Office.

Welcoming the project, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Cllr. Tom O’Neill said “County Carlow is home to some of the most fantastic restaurants, cafés , gastro pubs, food and drink producers and this project is all about showcasing this talent to local and regional consumers and encourage them to buy and experience locally in terms of food and drink”. The Cathaoirleach continued to say  O’Neill continued to say “we have a unique food and drink heritage which is undiscovered to many and the idea of the Taste inCarlow Tour with KCLR is to promote all things local that are there to stimulate the senses in terms of food and drink”.

Speaking about the benefits of the project, Aine Carey, Enterprise Executive with the Local Enterprise Office said “this project build on our Shop Local Project and this time they will be targeting local food/drink producers and those in the hospitality industry. This includes local coffee shops, food establishments, pubs of all types and food and drink manufacturing companies. As part of the shows businesses will have the chance to promote your business and tell everyone your story!  It is time to show people what Carlow has to offer”.

She continued to say “With 80,000 weekly adult listeners on air and even more online, a 70,000 strong local social media following KCLR provides the ideal platform to promote the message for County Carlow Towns & Villages which is Taste Local, Keep it in the County and support local employment”

Speaking about supporting the Food & Drink sector in County Carlow, Kieran Comerford, Head of Enterprise with the Local Enterprise Office in Carlow County Council said “Following the launch of the inCarlow Food & Drink Strategy earlier in the year we will continue to support the Food & Drink sector in a variety of ways and during 2020 will establish the inCarlow Food & Drink Forum and build the foundations to promote the sector in a co-ordinated way from 2020 onwards” , The Head of Enterprise continued to say “We are delighted that Carlow County Council last week was awarded €35,000 for the development of the inCarlow Taste Trail as part of the Town & Village Renewal Accelerated Scheme and we will commence development of this project in the coming weeks”.
