Shape the Future of Carlow: Local Residents and Businesses Invited to Join Sustainable Tourism Consultations

Fáilte Ireland, in partnership with Carlow County Council, is calling on the people of Carlow to help shape the next five years of tourism in the county. As part of the development of the new Carlow Destination and Experience Development Plan (DEDP), two community consultation sessions will be held on Tuesday, 26th May.

The DEDP is a comprehensive five-year roadmap designed to drive sustainable tourism growth. By consolidating proposed projects into one unified plan, the initiative aims to maximize Carlow’s potential, aligning local ambition with national tourism standards.

Emphasizing the collaborative nature of the plan, Cllr. Ken Murnane, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, highlighted the importance of local involvement:

"Community input is the cornerstone of this development plan. To create a destination that truly resonates, we need the insights and passion of the people who live and work here every day. Your participation ensures that our tourism growth is authentic and reflective of Carlow's unique spirit."

Linda Culleton, Economic Development Officer at Carlow County Council, underscored the strategic importance of the sector:

"Tourism is a vital pillar of County Carlow’s economy. Beyond bringing visitors to our shores, it fosters community vibrancy, showcases our cultural heritage, and provides essential support to our local business network. This plan is about turning those moments of celebration and heritage into enduring pillars of prosperity for our communities."

Consultation Schedule: Tuesday, 26th May

Time      Location

10:00 am – 12:30 pm    Borris Library, Main Street, Borris, Co. Carlow

2:00 pm – 4:30 pm         Tara Arms Function Room, Tullow, Co. Carlow

While these are drop-in sessions, pre-registration is requested to help manage the schedule and ensure everyone has dedicated time with the consultants. Once you register your preferred location and time, the team will confirm a specific slot to avoid overlaps.

Can’t Make It?

Your input is still vital. If you are unable to attend the sessions in person, you can contribute your views and project ideas via the online community survey.
