Community gardens attract a wide cross-section of people across the entire socio-economic spectrum and include individuals who have little gardening experience as well as those who’ve been gardening for years, making them a great place to learn outside in a natural environment.
As part of Ru:RBAN which is an Urbact Project , the County Carlow ULG Group in association with Carlow County Council invites people who have a passion for Community Gardens to attend a Community Garden Workshop which will be held in Carlow Town on 25th & 26th Day.
This two day session will include peer review and learning , case study presentations and training and guidance from the international expert groups which will explore and share best practice around the goverance , management and development of Community Garden spaces.

9.30am- 12.30pm | RU:RBAN Training – Part 1 E2 – Gardenisers – Andrea Messori The aim of Gardenisers training is to Inform and guide participants on the profile of the Gardeniser in a community garden, increasing their awareness of the complexity of the role and exercising the main social and coordination functions, through activities and simulations, in order to start identification processes and enhancement of the subjects that, at the local level, normally play this role in gardens. The training course aims to achieve the following specific objectives: - Support participants in conceptualizing possible structures and missions of urban gardens;
- Understand the costs and benefits of the urban garden;
- Reflect on the role of the urban garden in the local context;
- Support participants in conceptualizing the figure of the Gardeniser;
- Exercise the role of Gardeniser in its main functions
This training course is delivered by Experiential learning. Experiential learning is represented by the activities that are proposed and which act as a stimulus for the participant leading them to a reflection on their reactions, on their way of relating to others and to the topic addressed, collecting, through sharing, the reflections of the other participants. In this case the trainer facilitates the circulation of ideas for reflection, possibly supporting their systematization and abstraction in terms of analysis. |

8.30am - 11.00am | Case Study Visit: An Gairdín Beo An Gairdín Beo, a two-acre community garden in the centre of Carlow town where people work together then reap the rewards together. In 2014, the possibility of a community garden being created on what was then an overgrown site began to be explored. In 2015 a Board of Directors was established and An Gairdín Beo has since registered as a Charity. Their ethos is based on valuing diversity, sustainability, organic methods and indigenous species. The overall vision of the garden is of a space where people can connect more with nature, with the growing and making of food and with one another |

Silvia Cioli
Silvia, is an architect that took part in many research projects during the layout of the new master plan of the city of Rome, having introduced her to a major understanding of the issues of a sustainable and integrated urban planning and the complexity in today’s cities.
Andrea Messori
Andrea Messori is a trainer and project manager. He has been a Tool Fair general co-ordinator and is now a member of the Tools for Learning working group, specialising in the development of the Multilingual Educational Toolbox (M.E.T.)
Fiammetta Curcio
Graduated in Statistics and Economics. Working experiences: Statistical Analysis, Labour Market, Economic Development, Urban Sustainable Growth, Technology Transfer in SMEs, Migrants job reinsertion. Employers: Institute for economic research ECOTER, City of Rome - Dept. for Economic Development, University of Cassino.
