An efficient and effective bookkeeping system is at the heart of all successful businesses. This course will show participants how to set up a basic bookkeeping system and will also briefly cover issues relating to ROS and annual returns.

This Course will run online over two dates:  Wednesday 3rd March from 9.30am-12.00noon & Friday 5th March from 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Every business promoter needs to know how the business is performing on an on-going basis. Also they need to have confidence that the finances are in hand and that customer accounts are being settled on time and that creditors are being paid on time. It is essential that businesses are up to date with returns to Revenue and that banking matters are being properly handled.

This course will show participants how to set up a basic bookkeeping system to include a sales and purchases daybook, cash books and receivable and payable ledgers. It will also cover an introduction to double entry and a simple system to assist with the concept of debits and credits. It will deal with Nominal Ledger accounts, trial balances and the preparation of monthly accounts. It will also give a brief interpretation of an Income and Expense statement.

The course will also briefly cover issues relating to ROS and annual returns.


Objective:

The aim of the course is to provider participants with an understanding of a basic bookkeeping system. It will also provide participants with a basic understanding of the Irish taxation system and calculating tax liabilities

1:Introduction to Bookkeeping
Introduction to daybooks
Sales invoices and credit notes,
Sales daybooks, filing systems
Purchase invoice and credit note filing systems
Purchases daybooks


2:Ledgers
Cash Daybooks.
Payments and Receipts
Cash controls and petty cash systems
Accounts

3:VAT
PAYE/PRSI/USC.
Income Tax for the Self Employed
ROS

Outcomes:

Be able to setup and operate a basic bookkeeping system
Be able to record financial transactions in the appropriate daybooks
Be able to apply this learning in a practical manner in their own businesses
