
Three International students from Institute of Technology (Carlow) with their pitch “International Students Carlow” were declared the #Carlow Project Winners for the Third Level Digital Design Challenge as part of the #Carlow Digital Story Telling Project. Khai Lin Teen , Suet Fang Low , Shashi Kumar Aylasomyajula with their project International Students Carlow pitched to the judging panel in front of 70 of their Peers in IT Carlow.
#Carlow, Digital Storytelling Project is a County wide project which aims to increase the level of digital awareness for businesses and community within County Carlow. The project is supported by a partnership between a variety of organisations including; Local Enterprise Office Carlow, IT Carlow, Carlow Library, VISUAL, Carlow Tourism and is funded under the Rural Economic Development Zones.
Masters and Undergraduate students of Digital Marketing at IT Carlow were set the challenge to design a 1 minute video pitch for County Carlow as a place to Live , Work , Study , Create and Visit and pitched same to an expert panel.
Dorothy Keane , Programme Director for the Masters in Digital Marketing at IT Carlow said “This project enabled students to engage in an in-depth workshop and active learning on digital storytelling and also to gain the experience of pitching to people who purchase digital content in the public and private sector” , Keane continued to say “we are delighted to work in a collaborative way with Carlow County Council , Visual , Carlow Tourism on this project which enhances our students experience while learning as part of the community in County Carlow”.

Kathleen Holohan Chief Executive of Carlow County Council who was part of the pitch panel said “Today we have seen creativity and innovation from the students involved and I’ve been amazed by the quality of the presentations and digital content developed” , Holohan continued to say “we in Carlow County Council hope that this experience of working with Industry partners both public and private will allow the students to have a better understanding of the opportunities in the Digital Marketing Career” , she concluded saying “we are delighted to working with IT Carlow who really are focused on keeping Carlow on a map as a centre of excellence for its link between education and industry”.
The #Carlow Digital Marketing Project will conclude during November 2017 and speaking about the project , Kieran Comerford – Head of Enterprise said “We are delighted with the partnerships and projects that have been delivered under this project fund which all aimed to build capacity for the future of Carlow” , over “1000 individuals , companies and students have been involved in the programme since its inception and we look forward to the showcase event which will be hosted in Visual later in November”. Speaking about the importance of Digital from an economic viewpoint , Comerford stated “Over 50 Carlow companies have engaged in this programme and have received mentoring , specialized training , digital image programmes and advice on development of development of Digital Content” , Comerford continued to say “For businesses to compete in today’s digital landscape, companies need more than just an established online presence to attract new customers and retain clients they must invest their time and resources toward implementing multiple digital marketing techniques to continually increase traffic and generate leads”.
