Both artists have built successful creative careers in Cork and beyond, merging artistic talent with smart business strategies.

This panel discussion unveils their straightforward experiences, offering practical advice on navigating the art world and crucial tips for combining creative passion with entrepreneurial insight.

About the Speakers:

Mary Palmer has been exploring textile art through quilt making for 30 years. She trained in automotive design which has thus influenced her work with structure, pattern, and precision being important elements in her projects.

Although traditional forms and patterns influence her work, she brings a contemporary feel through colour and texture, drawing the viewer in. She likes to play with words and concepts and is frequently inspired by architectural shapes as well as magical mathematical structures found in nature and music.

Mary has won numerous awards worldwide and has work in private and public collections in Ireland and abroad.

Shane O'Driscoll is a printmaker, designer and visual artist from Cork. He is a member of Cork Printmakers and Backwater Artists Group and has exhibited his work internationally and throughout Ireland.

Shane has works in the permanent collection of The National Gallery, Crawford Gallery Cork, Trinity College Dublin, Glucksman UCC and UCD.

As well as practicing as an artist, he also co-directs the Ardú Street Art Project in Cork City.
