This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide and co-ordinate first aid in the work-place in compliance with the legislation

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide and co-ordinate first aid in the work-place in compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General application) Regulations 2007: Part 7, Chapter 2: First Aid and the associated guide to those regulations.
On successful completion, participants will be awarded FETAC Level 5 accreditation in Occupational First Aid.
The course syllabus includes:
- Assessment and accident scene management. Personal protection. Legal implications
of pre-hospital emergency care and dealing with stress.
- Types of wounds, dealing with external and internal bleeding including nosebleeds. Bandaging.
- Recognising and treating shock including anaphylaxis
- Treatment of burns, scalds and sunburn
- Dealing with electrical injuries
- Poisons including Carbon Monoxide poisoning
- Respiration, asphyxia and child, infant and adult choking (foreign body airway obstruction)
- Unconsciousness, fainting, skull, head, eye and facial injuries, concussion and compression.
- Recovery position for children, infants and adults.
- Fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations.
- CPR for children, infants and adults
- Use of an automatic external defibrillator
- Medical emergencies, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, spinal injuries
