This Programme will run over 2 dates - Monday 4th and Wednesday 6th October from 2.00pm - 4.00pm


Objective:

The aim of this programme is to help businesses/ organisations understand how the media works in order to strategically publicise their service or product. It’s not all about social media. Thousands of column inches, air space, podcasts, specialist journals etc need to be filled every day. This programme will help you target them.

Course Content:

  • Engaging with the media. Advice to participants on how to communicate with the media in order to publicise their product or service.
  • Targeting your audience. Each time you communicate you need to decide who your message is aimed at.
  • Strategy. Where and how best to engage with your audience.
  • Understanding journalists. They are important in passing on and contextualising your message.
  • Preparation is the key. Being interviewed for the broadcast media can be daunting. We will examine the basic rules and techniques. I will give you practical tips and advice which will increase your chances of being effective.
  • Interviewing: Hands on, one to one radio interviews.
  • Press releases: We consider structure : Language: Timing: What you have to say: Finding the hook.
  • While aspects of social media will be covered the emphasis will be on mainstream media.
  • Participants will also hear from a successful new business owner on how they use social media and manage their media coverage

Outcomes:

  • It will give participants the tools to deliver a clear, concise message in a confident and relaxed manner across broadcast platforms.
  • It will help them prepare for and carry out a radio/ media interview.
  • It will help participants understand what journalists are looking for and the importance of cultivating relationships with them in order to publicise their service or product.
