The Universal Accessibility & Age-Friendly Grant supports independent business owners to improve the accessibility of their shop or commercial property.
Accessibility and enhancing the overall condition of your premises help improve a customer’s first impressions of your business and contribute to a more prosperous feel and a stronger sense of identity in our town centres.
Each application will be assessed on its own merits, and all applicants are required to comply with applicable planning codes, legislative requirements, and other relevant regulations.

Grant Relief and Payment
The scheme will provide for up to €5000 (ex VAT) or 50% (whichever is lesser) of eligible expenditure.
Application and Guidelines
To apply for the Universal Accessibility & Age-Friendly Grant, applicants must adhere to the following application process:
- Complete the application form via the link below
- Quotations; 2 x Contractor quotations and/ or 1 x Materials quotation (Note: 3 written quotations must be sought for contracts above €5,000 as per National Procurement Guidelines)
- Proof of Payment of Rates to KCC or a payment plan in place
- Tax Clearance Certificate
- Declaration of ownership or written permission from the landlord/owner that the proposed work can be carried out
- Deadline for applications is: 29 May 2026.
Important: Please ensure no work is paid for, or completed before the application for Grant Aid is approved by the Kildare County Council’s Business Support Unit.
Important: Cash payments to your contractor or suppliers are PROHIBITED; all payments must be completed by EFT or cheque/ bank draft, and proof of payment will be sought.
