The Business Support Fund Scheme is comprised of four funds specifically designed to help improve business premises and support the growth of enterprise across South Dublin. The scheme focuses on improving the condition, appearance, and use of industrial and commercial properties, particularly in areas affected by vacancy, dereliction, or low investment.
Overview
The scheme includes four funding streams. Each one targets a different need but shares the same aim: to improve business areas and support economic activity.
- Three funds focus on physical improvement works.
- One fund supports new and small businesses through financial relief.

Industrial Area Improvement Scheme
This funding is for groups of businesses located in the same industrial area.
Businesses must work together, for example through a management company or similar structure.
The fund supports larger-scale improvements that benefit a wider area.
Typical works include:
- Road and access upgrades
- Lighting improvements
- Environmental improvements
- Shared space upgrades
Purpose: To improve the overall quality of industrial estates and encourage investment.
Individual Unit Supports
This funding is for individual businesses.
It supports improvements to the external, public-facing parts of a business premises.
Typical works include:
- Boundary treatments
- Wall repair
- Painting
- Landscaping
- General external maintenance
Purpose: To improve the appearance of individual units and contribute to a better local environment.
Microenterprise Development Fund
This fund is aimed at property owners or businesses seeking to bring vacant premises back into use.
It supports the upgrade of empty units so they can be used for business purposes.
Typical works include:
- Renovation of vacant units
- Fit-out works to support new use
- Improvements to make units suitable for occupation
Purpose: To reduce vacancy and support new business activity, job creation, and innovation.
Microenterprise / Start-up Support (Rates)
This support is for new and small-scale businesses.
It provides a reduction in commercial rates for up to two years.
The level of support is applied on a graduated basis over the period.
Purpose: To lower costs for new businesses and make it easier to start and grow in the early stages.
