Students in ITT Dublin showcase their Entrepreneurial talent

Congratulations are in order to the 10 finalist teams who showcased their business ideas at the recent Student Synergy Awards in the ITT Dublin. Sponsored by the Local Enterprise Office South Dublin, the awards encourage students in the Institute of Technology Tallaght to develop their entrepreneurial and innovation skills. The 10 finalist teams exhibited  their business ideas in the display area of the ITT Dublin in the morning followed by a a ‘Dragons Den’ style pitch to the judges. The participating teams featured innovative apps for the retail, fitness & beauty sectors, medical and tracking devices, tourism website, gift box solutions and innovative product for the music market.

The judging panel of Jack McDonnell ITT Dublin Industrial Liaison Manager, Ena Coleman LEO South Dublin Enterprise Executive, and Ben Teeling Allogen Biotech, resident Synergy Centre Entrepreneur and ITT Dublin Graduate assessed the projects on their potential feasibility, market, business report, financial estimates and stand / pitch.  Ben Teeling also offers the 'The Teeling Trophy for Entrepreneurship' to the most deserving finalist/team. This very practical prize offers the most deserving company a well-seasoned entrepreneurs first-hand knowledge & business experience. Ben Teeling offers the winners a mentoring package of his personal time & attention giving practical advice on legal, financial, and start-up supports.

Student Synergy Awards 2016 Five winners won a total prize fund totalling €5,500, and an Ipad Mini added-incentive prize for good measure.

Winners

1st prize of €2000 went to Rig Roadie promoted by Brian Bailey

2nd prize of €1500 went to Beauty Scan promoters Nessa Morrisey, and Maria Aprile

3rd prize of €1000 went to Basic Box promoters  Louise Hudson, Amy Tuite & Katie McDonald

4th prize of €500 went to Hanna- band promoters Selena Walshe, Nicole Grant, Jack McDonnell &Michelle Foran 

Special Merit Awards of €250 went to PET  Tracker promoters Jason Kavanagh, Aoife Mullen, and Graham Healy and to Ignite Media promoters Neil Carroll,  Eoin Carroll, Craig Babikian

The additional special prize of the ‘’Teeling Trophy for Entrepreneurship’’ went to  Brian Bailey of Rig Roadie

Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards

Already 4 of the local finalists have been shortlisted for the 3rd level Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards The Shortlist of x10 finalists will be called in May and the finals held later in June 2016 to be held in Limerick IT, home to last year’s winners www.studententrepreneurawards.com

Best wishes for success is extended to the shortlisted  four entered to win this big prize competition, totalling €65K with at first prize of €10K.

Preceding this grand finalé an initial ‘Innovative Idea’ competition was held with the finals held on Dec 10th 2015 with ‘idea generation’ workshops to support  ITT Dublin students. Many of the business ideas submitted were inspired by personal experience and insight into solving a problem/pain they have encountered, and proposing well thought-out practical business solutions.

Registrations and activities for the annual ITT Student Synergy Awards take place again into the next college year and is available to registered students from September 2016
