SCÚP GELATO wins County Enterprise Awards and will represent Wexford at the national competition.
Two small businesses from Wexford Town were the big winners at this year’s County Enterprise Awards, which were hosted on Friday 10th March by Wexford County Council’s Local Enterprise Office Wexford as part of Local Enterprise Week.
The top prize of €2,500 was awarded to Willie Devereux of Scúp Gelato from Wexford Town with runner up Nicky Lambert of Yellow Belly craft beers, also from Wexford Town, receiving a prize of €1,000. Scúp Gelato will now go forward to compete for a share of the €40,000 prize fund in the final of the National Enterprise Awards, to be held in Dublin in May.
Scúp Gelato supplys the food services market, producing top class gelato using a range of seasonal and traditional flavours and fresh Wexford milk and cream. Scúp Gelato supplies restaurants and hotels nationwide, providing a boutique service, working with top chefs to develope and produce bespoke flavours for them
Speaking at Friday’s awards ceremony, Tom Banville, Head of Enterprise at Wexford’s Local Enterprise Office congratulated the local entrepreneurs, saying: Scúp Gelato are a very worthy winner of this major enterprise award in recognition of what they have achieved here in the county. Because of its drive and determination, the company employs 6 people and has already developed an exciting export market, including Dubai and Singapore”.
Four other local businesses were shortlisted at the Wexford Enterprise Awards this year, and they were Mr Oil, Wexford Home Preserves, Club Choice Ireland and Bellehan Electrical Services. Among the special guests at the ceremony were Mr. Paul Kehoe, TD, Minister with Responsibility for Defence, Councillor Paddy Kavanagh, Chairman of Wexford County Council, Tom Enright, Chief Executive of Wexford County Council and Jim Hughes, CEO of Innovate Limited, a former winner of the National Enterprise Awards in 2012.
