The course will offer business start-up guidance and support to enable the participants to acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence to decide if they are suited to self-employment and learn what is involved in running their own business. Attendees will also gain an understanding of how to assess if their idea will work and develop skills on how to write a business/action plan

  • Understand how to use the Business Floor Plan tool and describe what a Business Plan contains
  • Identify your own key strengths, experience and skills and understand how these will add value to your customer proposition
  • Know how to gather vital and practical market research to learn about your target market
  • Conduct an evaluation of the external factors that impact on the business using PESTLE analysis
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis of your proposed business
  • Know what formal and legal steps required to set up a business in Ireland
  • Describe the features of the various legal business structures
  • Have a basic understanding of the Irish tax system and how it relates to self-employment
  • Complete a personal budget
  • Know how to determine your Direct (Variable), Capital and Fixed Costs
  • Know how to access appropriate statutory support
  • Choose the most appropriate source of commercial funding
  • Know how to calculate your break-even point
  • Know how to prepare Financial Projections

You will receive a comprehensive Start Your Own Business Manual, and a series of templates to enable you to complete your Business Plan and Financial Projections.
