We are looking for ambitious Craft and Design based enterprises that want to inject new ideas and approaches to product development into their practice.

Boost your product into the market through a series of design led workshops.

Building Craft and Design Enterprise Programme

Over the course of seven months you will undertake:

  • Research mission to a London trade show & retail visits.
  • Enhance your design and product
  • Brand your product effectively
  • Cost and promote your product in the marketplace
  • 8 days training
  • Bespoke 1 to 1 mentoring sessions
  • Considered for a stand in the Enterprise Zone of Showcase Ireland 2021

Workshops to include:

1. Introduction to the BCDE programme, value of Market Research, principles of marketing for the creative sector, current Design and business trends: 

How marketing principles apply to a creative business.  Is there a demand for what you make?  Do you know your best route[s] to market? Who are your competitors? How can you keep visible? Are you up to speed with trends for Design 2020 and beyond?

2. Product Development Part 1: 

How do you approach making? Do you think design, function, form? Building on your successes. What do your customers need? How do you present your work? Production planning . Time management

3. My Business Structure & Organization: 

10 steps to good business practice:

4. Costing and Pricing my design and production:  

How much is your customer willing to pay? How can you get a good margin?

5. Research mission (location to be decided) to visit a trade show & retail visits 

6. Product Development Part 2, 1 to 1 Clinics –  

A follow up from the product development part 1 segment of the programme. The clinics are a focussed one to one session, and include an audit and review of current product offerings and provide the opportunity to engage and discuss new and developing work. Thereby generating an individual action plan of key achievable tasks to be undertaken to improve the viability of product. Each participant will have one mentoring session over the three days.

*Note: -Final dates will depend on which research mission to London is decided on ..       

7. Website audit and Optimization:  

A critical analysis of individual websites and optimization and commercialization strategy.

8. Branding your company and your work: 

Understanding the core principles of Branding. Do you have a strong brand identity? How important is a strong brand for your business? How to manage your Brand

9. Retail Relations & Export Potential: 

Where are you going to sell? Online, direct retail, wholesale, internationally? Everywhere you can? What’s your strategy, have you considered design for export? How can you get into retail stores?

10. One to one mentoring in business, sales, design: 

11. A. The value of Trade fairs for design-based business:  

How trade fairs can be a valuable research source for designers, a direct path to target customers and a source of inspiration. B. Developing a PR campaign for your business: what tools do you need? What is your message? How to write a press release. What is media looking for?

Note: -The above workshops will be followed by the BCDE course completion Certificate Presentation.

The fee to participate is 250 euros and the programme is heavily subsidized.
