Mid-East Regional Enterprise Offices and Trinity College Dublin to Launch Masters Programme in Innovation & Entrepreneurship for Small Businesses

Businesses, leaders, creative teams, and those who want to be job shapers not seekers are invited to the launch of an ambitious new collaborative opportunity between the Mid-East Local Enterprise Offices and Trinity College Dublin.

Local Enterprise Offices of Kildare, Meath and Wicklow come together to extend an open invitation to the launch of a Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise Development accredited by Trinity College Dublin and based in MERITS, the Mid-East Region’s Innovation Think-Space. This launch event will take place on Wednesday 5th October in MERITS from 5:30pm.

In securing this partnership, Jacqui McNabb, Head of Enterprise and Economic Development in Kildare County Council said:

In developing this opportunity with TANGENT - Trinity’s Ideas Workspace, our overarching objective is to accelerate innovation capability in the region, to ensure that our business clients have a competitive edge and the ambition to be global leaders.

For many companies there is a wide gap between their aspirations to innovate and their ability to execute. By supporting innovation at the core of each business, we can support and bridge that gap.

IRDG CE Dermot Casey, as keynote speaker, will lead a challenging discussion on the hurdles SMEs face in undertaking R&D but also the scale of the successes he has witnessed as a leader and educator in business-led innovation.

Ken Finnegan, CEO of Tangent, Trinity’s Ideas Workspace, added:

We are excited to begin working alongside the LEO network and MERITS to support the region’s enterprise community; from SMEs and emerging start-ups, to intrapreneurs and those simply wanting to learn more about innovation and entrepreneurship. Together, we can deliver a transformative learning experience, nurturing local talent and strengthening our national innovation network.

The part-time course, which runs over 18 weeks from January to June 2023, will be hosted in MERITS, Naas, Co. Kildare. The course is for those seeking to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, a new career path or wishing to upskill and progress within their current organisation. The Trinity Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise Development will provide ambitious individuals in the region with the opportunity to gain a postgraduate qualification at level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

The course will equip learners with the creative confidence and skills required to translate ideas into innovative solutions, with course content covering everything from idea development and creative problem-solving, to creating, leading, and scaling a new venture.

The course is funded by the Higher Education Authority under the Springboard+ initiative, meaning it is free to eligible applicants with a fee of 10% (€300) being applicable for successful applicants currently in employment. Classes will be delivered online (70%) and in-person (30%) and the course is now open for applications.

The Local Enterprise Offices extend an open invitation to those based in the region and interested in learning more at the upcoming launch event which will take place in MERITS, Naas, Co.
