                         POSITIVE RESPONSE TO NATIONAL WOMEN’S ENTERPRISE DAY

National Women’s Enterprise Day (NWED) 2023 was marked in style on Thursday last (19th October) at Powerscourt House, Enniskerry, when over 100 female business owners gathered to mark the event.

The theme of the event – organised by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Wicklow and funded by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Enterprise Ireland and Local Authorities - was ‘Empowering Business Together.

Vibeke Delahunt, Head of Enterprise at LEO Wicklow, opened proceedings and introduced Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Aoife Flynn Kennedy, and Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, who both spoke about their support for women in business in the county.

 

MC Lisa Cunningham facilitated a lively Q&A session, after the guest speakers Anna Daly and Elaine Geraghty spoke, telling their stories of business and working life.

 

Anna Daly, award-winning TV presenter and founder of clothing company ‘Little Bliss,’ gave practical and inspirational advice on starting a growing a business.  Anna, a Greystones resident, also described juggling life and work with three young boys.

 

Elaine Geraghty, Managing Director of Ardmore Film & TV Studios and formerly Chief Executive of Newstalk, gave a fascinating account of her long and varied career and how she made it to the top.

A broad range of industries were represented at the event: from financial services to coaching, fashion and styling to retail. The stunning ballroom at Powerscourt House was packed and buzzing with enthusiasm and positivity, and the standing ovation after the guest speakers’ presentations finished the day on a high note.

Speaking at the event, Aoife Flynn Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, welcomed those present to the 16th National Women’s Enterprise Day, and said that NWED “,

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, reminded those present that “this National Women's Enterprise Day is also an opportunity to highlight the incredible supports available through the LEO to help start and grow your businesses.  The journey of entrepreneurship can be challenging, and the Local Enterprise Office Wicklow can provide local businesses with the essential tools and resources needed to thrive.”
